James is a Middle East and Energy specialist, with a politics degree from the University of Sheffield and considerable experience of the Arab world, including a period at Beir Zeit University and as a business writer for the Lebanon-based English language daily The Beirut Times. Following a grounding in magazine publishing, he was formerly a staff writer with Middle East Economic Digest (MEED) and Middle East & North Africa editor at Business Monitor International.

James writes widely on MENA region and oil issues. He is now contributing editor to CbI's Gulf States Newsletter, African Energy and Iraq Focus publications, and works on other aspects of CbI's research and publishing portfolio.
